Late Hendrix three sinks Centre in SAA showdown

DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre men's basketball dropped a narrow 63-60 decision Friday evening against Hendrix, surrendering a decisive 3-pointer in the closing seconds inside Alumni Gymnasium.

The Colonels slide to 9-8 overall and 3-4 in the Southern Athletic Association following the loss, while the visiting Warriors avenge last week's defeat to Centre and improve to 12-7 overall and 5-3 in-conference.

HIGHLIGHTS
- The long ball was working early for the Colonels, who sank four of their first six from 3-point range to take a 16-7 lead.
- Hendrix answered with a 13-0 run across a four-minute span to take an 18-16 advantage just past the midway point of the opening half.
- Dustin Gerald would score 13 points in the closing stretch of the period, including a last-second bucket at the buzzer to hand Centre a 37-33 halftime lead. The senior led all scorers with 19 points at the break.
- The Warriors came out of the half on a 12-2 run to regain command of the scoreboard.
- Centre trimmed the deficit as the game wore on, sparked by a big second-half scoring effort from RJ Smith. Two of Smith's 11 second-half points came on a monster putback dunk that ignited the crowd.
- Gerald eventually tied the game at 60-60 with a 3-pointer with under 90 seconds on the clock.
- Noah Ring delivered a massive block on a layup attempt from Hendrix's Seth Stanley with 18 seconds on the clock, but on the ensuing play, Darvis Rasberry Jr. sank a 3-pointer for the visitors that proved to be the game-winner.
