Panthers sink Colonels with last-second bucket

DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre men's basketball dropped a heartbreaker Friday evening, falling by a 93-92 score to Birmingham-Southern inside Alumni Gymnasium after a last-second 3-pointer.

The Colonels fall to 7-5 overall and 1-1 in the Southern Athletic Association, while the Panthers improve to 6-6 overall and 0-1 in-conference.

HIGHLIGHTS
- It was a tightly contested matchup right from the start, with the teams trading leads during the opening stages of the first half.
- Trailing 17-12, Centre turned the tides with a 21-8 stretch spanning more than seven minutes to take a 33-22 advantage – the game's first double digit lead. Marshall Taylor scored eight off the bench during the run, which was capped by a Chez Moore steal-and-score.
- The Panthers closed the half strong, pulling within 47-45 at the break thanks to their own prolific bench scorer, Luke Touliatos, who had 20 first-half points.
- Centre established itself again as the second half got underway. Guards Drew Wilson and Carter Baughman combined for 15 points as the Colonels built their largest lead of the night at 76-62 with under 10 minutes remaining.
- Birmingham-Southern answered yet again, clawing back to make it a 92-90 deficit on the game's final possession. The Panthers successfully advanced the ball past halfcourt, and with 0.5 on the clock, Cameron Glover hit a 3-pointer to end the affair.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Noah Ring scored a career-high 23 points on 8 of 13 shooting (including 6 of 11 from 3-point range), helping make up for leading scorer Dustin Gerald's absence.
- Baughman followed with 19 points, while RJ Smith went for 15 and 11 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season.
- Taylor finished with a career-high 15 points in a reserve role, going 5-for-6 from the floor while knocking down two 3-pointers.
- BSC won the rebounding battle, 36-31, and hauled in seven offensive boards in the second half to out-pace Centre 15-2 in second chance points.
- The Colonels were just 7 of 13 as a team at the free throw line.
