DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre football finished its 2022 season in style on a cold, overcast afternoon at
Andy Frye Stadium as the Colonels honored their seniors with a rousing 57-3 win over the Millsaps Majors.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The first points of the game came courtesy of the Centre defense as senior
Dallas Douglas tipped a pass that landed into the hands of senior
Armon Wells, who raced the other way to the house to give Centre a quick 7-0 lead in the opening minute.
- Centre's defense set up the next score as well as senior
Jack Colosimo forced a fumble that was recovered by
Joseph Becherer to give the Colonels another short field. Centre quickly capitalized as senior
Nick Osterman found senior
Greer Stone for an 18-yard touchdown pass and a 14-0 Centre lead.
- A sack by
Duerell Bard set up Millsaps in a 4th & long, and on the ensuing punt attempt, the snap sailed over the punter's head through the back of the end zone for a safety that made it 16-0.
- After a
Cam Tegge field goal, Millsaps got the ball back and approached midfield before Wells turned the Majors over again with a strip sack. Bard scooped up the loose ball and ran deep into Millsaps territory.
Keaton Martin punched it in from the goal line to give Centre a 26-0 lead after one quarter.
- The two teams traded field goals to start the second quarter. After the Majors' field goal, Stone took a short kickoff and ran it back 79 yards for a touchdown to make it 36-3.
- The defense gifted the offense another short field when
Joseph Becherer jarred the ball loose with a sack and
Kirsci Vincent recovered the loose ball. Senior
Beau Buchanan connected with senior
Daylin Huff on a picture-perfect post pattern for the final touchdown of the first half and Centre went into the locker room up 43-3 at the half.
- Centre's first drive of the second half belonged to senior
Dameon Jones Jr., who carried the ball the final four times for 41 yards, capping it off with a four-yard touchdown plunge.
- The final touchdown of the game came on the first play of the fourth period as Osterman took it in himself from six yards out.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Colonels outgained the Majors 393-119 for the game, including a 204-14 edge on the ground. Osterman led all players with 98 yards rushing.
- On defense, Wells had a career finale for the ages, finishing with a game high 13 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, a forced fumble and an interception for a touchdown.
- All but one of Centre's touchdowns in the game were scored by seniors on Senior Day.
- Stone's kickoff return for a score was Centre's first touchdown on a kickoff return since Cody Estep ran one back against Hendrix in the 2017 season.
