ATLANTA – In 2021, the Centre women's soccer team and the Emory Eagles faced off in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, where the Colonels pushed past the Eagles in overtime off a late
Mills Mullen goal. On Sunday afternoon, the two teams faced off in the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the second season in a row, this game moving to penalty kicks. The Gold and White (16-3-2) would cap the 2022 season with the closest battle they encountered, falling to Emory (13-4-1) in PKs 4-2 on a 3-3 draw.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS

Jonelle Barron kicked off the historic contest by saving three different Emory shots-on-goal within the game's first eight minutes of play, two from the bottom left and one in the center.
- Mullen erupted on the fast break down the line in the 18th minute of the game, shooting her first shot of the contest into the back of the net to put the Gold and White up early.
- It wouldn't be long before Emory tied up the game, the Eagles striking back in just after the start of the 24th minute and then taking the lead in the 33rd minute of play.
- After halftime,
Cara Francke would send an excellent drop floating pass right in front of Mullen, the senior pushing a shot past both the defender and Emory goalkeeper to tie the game up at two scores each.
- Centre would look to ice the game and move onto the next round as
Annabel Justice found a shot to the bottom-right side of the net, but Emory would force the game to overtime by collecting a team save on the shot.
- The two teams trade punch-for-punch in the first overtime, but
Alexis Kronenthal would find the perfect shot opportunity on a bounce-back pass from Mullen to give the Colonels the lead in the first overtime period.
- Emory would tie the game in the first 90 seconds of the second overtime period, but Barron would save the Colonels and force the game into penalty kicks with a save to the bottom-left side of the net with less than three minutes on the clock.
- The Eagles would get the best of the Gold and White in the five rounds of penalty kicks, Emory only missing one to knock Centre out of the brsacket.
