Colonels ride hot shooting to 87-70 win over Covenant

DANVILLE, Ky. – The Centre men's basketball team improved to 2-1 on the season after by far their most impressive offensive performance of the year in an 87-70 victory over the Covenant Scots on Wednesday night at Alumni Gym.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

- The Scots held the lead for the early minutes of the first half, but Centre battled back at around the halfway point. Marshall Taylor came off the bench to score five quick points and a driving layup by Cade Stinnett gave the Colonels their first lead at 17-15.
- Both teams alternated 7-0 runs over the next four minutes as Carter Baughman made consecutive jumpers to put the Colonels back on top.
- The Colonels gradually extended their lead as Hunter Coleman scored eight straight points, capped off by a three-pointer in the corner to give Centre their largest lead of the at 44-34. Centre led 44-36 at the half.
- After Covenant scored on their first offensive trip of the second half, the Centre defense tightened on the inside and the Colonels rallied for a 12-0 run as Stinnett put the exclamation point on the outburst with a corner three in transition.
- The Colonels took their largest lead of the game at 70-48 following a layup from Chez Moore. Covenant made a nice push after the under-8:00 media timeout and cut the deficit to 12 points, but Centre showed good poise down the stretch as Stinnett and Coleman drew fouls and connected on free throws to push back the Scots' rally.
- The play of the game came in the closing minutes as Moore shook off his man near the end of the shot clock and unleashed a furious dunk that ranks among the best in Alumni Gym history.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
