Centre finds revenge in SAA Semifinal win

Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. – After blanking Oglethorpe in the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Quarterfinal round of the conference tournament, the third-seeded Centre women's soccer team (15-3, 5-2 SAA) round themselves in a rematch with the second-seeded Berry Vikings (10-5-2, 5-1-1 SAA) in the semifinal match on Friday night. After losing the regular season matchup back in September, the Gold and White found vengeance in the battle, sending themselves to the SAA Finals off a 3-1 victory.
 
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Centre was able to strike first, Lydia Bowling battling an excellent header into the back of the net in the game's 27th minute. Bowling's look was credited with an assist, Bella Nelson continuing her hot streak with the one earning the statistic.
- The Colonels wouldn't take their foot off the gas going into halftime, earning another score for a two-goal lead in the game's 43rd minute. Mills Mullen was able to push the ball inside the box, the aerial battle soon after won by Ava Priest with the team's second goal off a header on the day.
- Coming out of halftime, Berry would inch a little closer to the Colonels with a goal in the 55th minute.
- The Vikings would look to amount more offense after their momentum gained, but senior goalkeeper Jonelle Barron would halt them in their tracks. Barron was able to save two consecutive shots on goal by Berry, one at the high-center portion of the net and the other in the lower left.
- The Gold and White would cement the game's result with one more goal in the 80th minute, Maggie Corbett sending an absolute laser of a shot that hit the crossbar just low enough to bounce across the line. 
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Colonels allowed only two corner kicks for Berry in the 90-minute contest, making it the sixth time in the last seven games that they've allowed two or less in a game.
- Bowling's goal marks her second in the last three games, the sophomore compiling five points overall in the stretch.
- Barron's three saves at the net is her seventh time in 2022 collecting more saves than goals allowed in a single contest.
- Centre's 56 goals on the season (up to this point) matches their 2021 total with at least one more game still left in the 2022 season. 

UP NEXT
The Colonels will move through the bracket to the SAA Championship match on Sunday, Nov. 6, set to face top-seed and host Sewanee Tigers on their home field. After losing the regular season finale against the Tigers on a 2-1 final score, the Gold and White will look to complete their revenge tour topped with a conference trophy at 2 p.m. ET.
