DANVILLE, Ky. – After opening the season with their 6-3 win over Covenant last week, the Centre men's tennis team kicked off their four-game home stand on Wednesday night, hosting the Campbellsville Tigers. The visitors were able to scrap past the Gold and White, the Colonels falls on a final score of 7-2.
Centre was able to walk away with a victory in one of the three doubles matches, the final series to conclude.
Jasper Gazzo and
Bo Bush teamed up for the second time this season at the No. 1 spot, but fell to their opponent on a final score of 8-4.
Danny Nelson and
Matthew Bulow fell to a similar fate on Wednesday night, also concluding the No. 2 series with an 8-4 loss.
Faraz Ghamgosar and
Ashton Whitt were able to bounce back from their duo's loss to Covenant last week, speaking by the Tigers in the No. 3 slot on a final score of 8-6.
The singles matches featured several tight series between the two teams, the Tigers closing the deal after a couple wins, unfortunately. Ghamgosar sat at the top singles spot once again on Wednesday, starting strong but falling in a 7-6 (4), 2-6, 7-10 series. The No. 2 slot featured a tiebreaker as well, Gazzo falling to his opponent 6-7 (5), 2-6. Bush was the team's winner out of the singles group, the No. 3 spot finishing third in a stellar 6-4, 2-6, 13-11 tight series.
Emerson Dean made his appearance into the match as the No. 6 member of the singles group, falling 6-1, 6-1. Bulow fought back-and-forth against his foe in the No. 5 slot, but the series falling out of his favor 4-6, 4-6. Whitt was the final series to conclude on Wednesday night, his opponent taking the sophomore to a third set in a 6-3, 6-7, 5-10 loss.
The Colonels will look to bounce back in a matter of days, competing next against Midway on Saturday. That contest will take place on Centre's home turf in Danville, Ky., kicking off at 11 a.m.
