Men’s tennis bounce back with dominant win

DANVILLE, Ky. – After falling to versus Campbellsville earlier in the week, the Centre men's tennis team (2-1) kicked off their second game of their home stand with a series against Midway. The Colonels emerged victorious against the Eagles in the contest, claiming the final on a final 7-2 score.

The Gold and White had plenty to celebrate in Saturday's series, sweeping all three of the doubles matches in strong performances. Bo Bush and Jasper Gazzo paired up once again in the No. 1 slot for the third time this season, claiming their win by the widest margin of the three series, 8-1. Both the No. 2 and No. 3 series resulted in the same score, each containing 8-4 victories in the favor of Centre. The former series was paired by Danny Nelson and Matthew Bulow, while the later mentioned was secured by Ashton Whitt and Faraz Ghamgosar.

The team's singles matches aligned to the Gold and White for the majority, Centre sealing wins in four of the six official series. Bush stood at the top for the Colonels in Saturday's series, his No. 1 match swung in his favor 7-5, win by retirement. Jett Anderson and Newcomb Maddux were able to collect their first wins of the season on their first singles appearances, the former pushing a dominant 6-0, 6-2 victory in the No. 6 slot and the later holding a comeback 2-6, 6-1, 13-11 win in the No. 5 series. Emerson Dean was the final Colonel to collect a win in singles, his tight matchup falling to his end of the court 7-5, 7-5. Danny Nelson fought hard for his first singles appearance, but fell short on a 5-7, 4-6 loss in the No. 3 slot. The last series from the No. 2 battle was from Ashton Whitt, his score resulting in a 3-6, 2-6 loss.

The men's tennis team will host one more home series before jumping to inter conference play, hosting Asbury on Wednesday, Feb. 23. The doubles matches are scheduled to kick off at 5 p.m.
