Colonels fall against Tigers

GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The Centre men's tennis team (2-4) finished off a tough weekend of games on back-to-back days by traveling to Indiana on Sunday to face off against DePauw. The Tigers were able to get off to a hot start and ride the momentum for the rest of the series, the Colonels falling on a final score of 6-3.

The Gold and White couldn't find a win in the doubles matches, DePauw able to sweep Centre in the three official matches. The No. 3 series of Danny Nelson and Newcomb Maddux were the closest of the three slots, falling on a final score of 8-6. Bo Bush and Jasper Gazzo tagged together for the No. 1 spot yet again for this Colonel squad, but fell on a 8-3 final score. The last series was the No. 2 squad of Faraz Ghamgosar and Ashton Whitt, the result being a DePauw 8-0 finish.

The two teams split the single series at an even three points each, Gazzo holding the most dominant win for the Colonels in the No. 3 series. Although his first set was a tight 7-5, his second set to win the series ending in a lopsided 6-1 score. Emerson Dean claimed a win in the final No. 6 spot in the lineup, the Columbus, Ohio native performing a 6-2, 7-5 win. Jett Anderson danced the tightest of the six singles series in the No. 5 slot, his win including a third set with a series score of 6-4, 5-7, 11-9. Ghamgosar gave his Tiger opponent a hard-fought performance as the team's No. 1 singles student-athlete, but falling in the second set on a 6-3, 7-5 series. Bush's No. 2 series ended on a 6-1, 6-3 loss and Matthew Bulow's loss at the No. 4 spot concluded on a 6-1, 6-1 final score.
