HANOVER, Ind. – After a week of rest, recovery and prep work from their last trip to the state up north, the Centre men's tennis team (3-4) traveled back to Indiana on Saturday afternoon for the first of two-straight contests against Hanover. The Colonels hot start boded well for their momentum, finishing the match on a final score of 7-2 for their third win of the season.
The Gold and White were able to sweep Hanover in the doubles matches, all three scoring series and even the two extra exhibition matches collecting wins on Saturday afternoon. The No. 3 team of
Jett Anderson and
Faraz Ghamgosar were the first squad to complete their match, the duo's first performance together proving to be a force to be reckoned with on an 8-2 win. The usual crew of
Bo Bush and
Jasper Gazzo appeared in Centre's No. 1 series in the afternoon matchup, the young core becoming the second series to conclude on their 8-4 victory.
Newcomb Maddux and
Danny Nelson stepped on the court together for the second time this season, this time reaching the No. 2 series and collecting their first team win. The senior duo's final score ended in an 8-5 win.
Although Hanover was able to steal a couple singles points, the Colonels held strong and carried through with momentum to outscore them 4-2 in the second half of the contest. Anderson made quick work of his opponent once again in the weekend series, beating out his singles opponent in the No. 5 slot of the lineup on a final score of 6-1, 6-3.
Emerson Dean made his game day appearance for the fifth time this season, the freshman starting in the No. 6 series to claim his fourth win of the year 6-2, 6-4.
Bo Bush finished the afternoon with a perfect record on the day after his singles match, controlling his No. 2 series on a consistent 6-4, 6-4 win.
Matthew Bulow was able to stay composed throughout his No. 4 match in the lineup, the senior veteran coming from behind in the 2-6, 6-2, 7-5 win over his Hanover foe. The final two sets wouldn't fall in the Colonels' favor, Gazzo being the first to conclude on his 4-6, 6-3, 6-10 result. Although Ghamgosar's No. 1 match didn't go to a third set, his tenacity to not go down without a fight led to a tiebreaker series in the second set. The Chattanooga, Tenn. native would eventually fall though on a final score of 7-5, 7-6 (7-2).
The Gold and White will see some familiar faces next time they take the court, their next match being against Hanover once again.
