DANVILLE, Ky. – The Centre baseball team wrapped up a wild week of five games in four days as they welcomed the Alfred State Pioneers to Gary Wright Field at Fishman Park.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Colonels manufactured a run in the opening inning as
Karson Thompson reached on a fielder's choice, advanced to second on a wild pitch, stole third and scored following an RBI groundout by
Patrick Hope.
- The Pioneers got their first runner in scoring position in the sixth, but
Drake Kawa pitched out of the jam to protect Centre's tenuous one-run lead.
- In Centre's half of the sixth, the Colonels loaded the bases as
Mark Pyburn was hit by a pitch, Thompson singled and
Jordan Gunter worked a four-pitch walk. Hope was then hit by a pitch for his second RBI of the day to put Centre up 2-0.
- Alfred State rallied to tie the game with two runs in the seventh, and then took the lead in the eighth on a two-run homer by Nick Serce.
- The Colonels put the first two runners on base in the eighth, but failed to advance them as the rally was stopped cold.
Cole Fergusson and
Jamie Laframboise each walked with two outs in the ninth, but once again that was as close as they got as the Pioneers bullpen closed the door on the game.
