SALEM, Va. – Looking for a bounce-back win after falling to Swarthmore last Saturday, the Centre women's tennis team (5-6) geared up for a spring break matchup against Roanoke out east. The Colonels found their rhythm and hit their stride on Monday afternoon, sweeping the Maroons on a clean 9-0 win.
The Gold and White were able to hold strong during the doubles matches, winning all three of the series to compete.
Grace Headley and
Katharine Sherman teamed up for the second time this season as the team's No. 3, the senior duo having déjà vu with another 8-0 victory.
Ella Rueff and
Lainey Hill combined for an 8-1 victory as the team's No. 1 series, the team garnering their third win this spring. The final series to conclude was held in the No. 2 match, but
Maddy Trinh and
Hannah Doherty were able to put together a strong performance in the 8-0 vwin.
The singles matches featured a pair of clean sweeps, Doherty being the first series to complete as the team's No. 2 in the lineup on a 6-0, 6-0 win. Headley was able to collect her first singles win of the season in the No. 4 spot, her victory on Monday coming way in a 6-1, 6-1 fashion.
Caroline Lancaster made her way on the courts for a 6-1, 6-0 win, running as the Colonels' No. 3 competitor. Sherman created a singles win streak against her Roanoke foe in the No. 3 spot of the lineup, ending the day with a 6-2, 6-2 win.
Abby Jamison appeared for the second time this season on Monday afternoon, rounding out the Gold and White's singles lineup as the No. 6 in her 6-0, 6-0 sweep. The final match to conclude was in the No. 5 series, where
Mamie Sevier garnered the final point for Centre in a 6-1, 6-0 win.
Similar to the men's schedule, the women will next take on Randolph-Macon for their third contest this spring break. That Tuesday, March 22 match is set to kick off at 4 p.m.
