Women’s tennis spark win streak against Yellow Jackets

ASHLAND, Va. – Coming off of their 9-0 sweep on Monday afternoon, the Centre women's tennis team (6-6) looked to repeat their success in a road contest against Randolph-Macon on Tuesday. The Colonels would do just that, creating a win streak after their 8-1 victory over the Yellow Jackets.

The Gold and White featured some familiar faces in their doubles lineup on Tuesday, Hannah Doherty and Katharine Sherman leading the charge as Centre's No. 1 series for the ninth time this season. The duo would win in a dominant 8-0 fashion, Tuesday becoming their fifth win together so far this season. Ella Rueff and Lainey Hill would match up for their own 8-1 victory, the pair stepping up as the Colonels' No. 2 team. Caroline Lancaster and Grace Headley tagged together as the team's No. 3 lineup, the two's first gathering this season melding well in the 8-4 victory.

The Colonels would take down the Yellow Jackets officially with the result of the first couple singles matches, several members of the squad earning a 6-1, 6-0 emphatic win. Rueff moved into the lineup's No. 1 position, her result being the score mentioned above. The other two student-athletes that contained the score mentioned prior was Maddy Trinh (No. 3) and Lancaster (No. 4). Hill put on a consistent and dominant performance in the team's No. 2 spot of the lineup, winning her match on a 6-1, 6-1 final score. Mamie Sevier was able to come back tough in her No. 5 match on Tuesday, coming through a tough battle on top 6-7, 6-1, 10-8. Abby Jamison was the final match to conclude in the singles portion of the contest, her No. 6 series in the lineup resulting in a tough 6-4, 4-6, 9-11 loss.

The Colonels have one more stop in their spring break trip before making their way back to Kentucky, their final spot against Washington & Lee on Wednesday, March 23. The first doubles match out in Lexington, Va., will kick off with a 4 p.m. start time.
