Colonels swept by Lynx in baseball doubleheader

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Centre baseball team returned from their Florida spring break trip and dove right back into conference play with a series at Rhodes. The Lynx took both games of Saturday's doubleheader by scores of 7-3 and 6-4.

Game 1: Rhodes 7, Centre 3

- The Lynx struck quickly to take a 1-0 lead in the first after three consecutive hits.
- Centre bounced back in the top of the third as Mark Pyburn led off with a single and Jordan Gunter launched one over the wall in right center field to give the Colonels a 2-0 lead.
- Rhodes retook the lead after hitting homers in the third and fourth inning, and then broke the game open in the fifth with a three-run rally that saw six straight batters record hits.
- The Colonels got one back in the top of the sixth after Josh Cunningham walked, advanced to third on a Patrick Hope single and scored on a sac fly by Luc Morgan, but that was as close as they got the rest of the way.

Game 2: Rhodes 6, Centre 4

- The night cap of the doubleheader was a seven-inning game and turned into a pitcher's duel as Carson Werrmann locked down the Lynx through the first three innings.
- The Lynx finally got to Werrmann in the fourth with a two-out rally that ended with a three-run double.
- After going hitless for the first five innings of the game, the Centre bats awoke in the sixth. Karson Thompson walked and later scored following singles by Gunter and Cunningham. Hope walked to load the bases and Centre plated its second run of the frame on a sacrifice fly by Cole Fergusson. Morgan walked to reload the bases and then Will Cline battled back from an 0-2 count to work a bases loaded walk to tie the game.
- In the seventh, the Colonels took the lead for the first time as Pyburn led off with a base hit. After Gunter walked, Hope ripped a base hit to the opposite field to score Pyburn and put Centre up 4-3.
- Rhodes quickly put runners on second and third in their half of the seventh and won the game with a walk-off three-run homer.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORES
