Colonels fall to Sewanee in SAA opener

DANVILLE, Ky. – In their final match before heading back to classes from the spring break season, the Centre women's tennis team (6-8, 0-1 SAA) hosted the Sewanee Tigers on Sunday afternoon in the Centre Tennis Courts indoor facility. The Gold and White couldn't muster the win on the cold afternoon, falling on a final score of 9-0.

The doubles matches couldn't find a series to fall the Colonels' way, Sewanee taking all three points in the contest. Caroline Lancaster and Maddy Trinh were the first series to conclude, falling on a final score of 8-1 in the No. 3 slot. The No. 2 series was head by Ella Rueff and Lainey Hill, the duo's final score being 8-3 in favor of the Tigers. The final series to conclude was at the top of the lineup in the No. 1 series, where Katharine Sherman and Hannah Doherty couldn't grab the win on an 8-3 loss.

The Gold and White weren't able to garner momentum in the singles matches, the Tigers claiming all six series. Sherman was the first series to complete at the No. 1 slot, falling on a 6-0, 6-1 final score. Rueff ran as the team's No. 2 in the lineup and was able to hold tight to start, eventually ending on a 6-4, 6-1 loss. The No. 3 series was the closest of the six, Hannah Doherty fighting tooth-and-nail in her 6-4, 6-3 loss. Hill brought on the second wave of singles matches as the team's No. 4, her score not in the Colonels' favor 6-1, 6-1. Lancaster rounded out the lineup as the No. 6 series on Saturday, falling on a 6-0, 6-0 score. Trinh was the final set to conclude with a 6-2, 6-0 loss, working as the team's No. 5 in the lineup.

Centre won't have to wait long to look to get back on the winning side, taking on Wittenberg on Sunday, March 27 for their next contest. The second of their four-game home stand will kick off at 9:30 a.m.
