DANVILLE, Ky. – The energy was palpable at the Centre Tennis Courts on Sunday afternoon, the Centre men's tennis team (7-5) hosted the Wittenberg Tigers for the first of their three-game home stand. A competitive set of series that constantly was back-and-forth from start to finish, the Colonels prevailed and came up with a 7-2 victory.
The Gold and White were able to snag a lead after doubles, an impressive 2-1 result of the three series. At one point, each of the three series had a score not in favor of the Colonels, but that didn't matter for
Bo Bush and
Jasper Gazzo in the No. 2 slot of the lineup. The dynamic duo came away with their seventh win together so far this season, their fourth in a row on an 8-5 final score.
Newcomb Maddux and
Danny Nelson also kept a win streak going together on Sunday, erasing their deficit for a thrilling 8-6 win as the team's No. 3's. The final series to conclude was at the top of the lineup,
Faraz Ghamgosar and
Ashton Whitt putting together a true back-and-forth battle that sadly fell in favor of the Tigers 8-7 (5).
The Colonels kept the ball rolling in singles, the first three series keeping the favor in the way of the Gold and White. Gazzo put in the work for a quick two-set series in the No. 3 slot of the lineup, taking down his opponent for the win 6-4, 6-3. Whitt was lined up at the team's No. 2 spot, but couldn't come in front of the tight battle in the 7-5, 6-3 loss. Ghamgosar's series at the top of the lineup was nail biting, getting off to a hot start and finishing strong on his 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (8) victory. Bulow was able to seal the victory for the Gold and White, his No. 4 series closed out on a consistent 6-2, 6-2 final score. The final two series played it out at the No. 5 and 6 slots of the lineup, the former belonging to
Jett Anderson and his 6-3, 6-1 win and the latter being
Emerson Dean with a 6-1, 7-6 (4) victory.
The Colonels will get back to the grindstone before the come to the homestretch of the season, their final six regular season contests against other institutions in the SAA. Their next matchup is on Saturday, April 2 against Millsaps, kicking off in the Centre Tennis Courts at 10 a.m.
