Men’s tennis extends win streak to eight after Sunday victory

DANVILLE, Ky. – After taking down Hendrix in a road contest just the day prior, the Centre men's tennis team (11-5, 4-1 SAA) look to continue their program-best seven-game win streak on Sunday. The team faced off against the Rhodes Lynx, extending their program-best win streak to eight consecutive games after a dominant 7-2 win.

The Colonels got their momentum going early as the Gold and White swept the doubles series, three points right off the bat in the first portion of the contest. Faraz Ghamgosar and Ashton Whitt were the first series to conclude on Sunday morning, sweeping their No. 2 Lynx opponent on a final score of 8-0. Jett Anderson and Newcomb Maddux were the second group to finish up their series, claiming a victory with an 8-5 final score in the No. 3 matchup. Bo Bush and Danny Nelson were the final series to complete, the duo skidding past the Warriors in the No. 1 spot of the lineup in a tight 8-7 (0) score.

The Colonels made quick work in singles to earn the victory, senior Danny Nelson being the first series to finish as he cleaned up a quick 6-0, 6-1 win in the No. 5 spot of the lineup. The No. 3 series was the second of the six to finish up, Whitt's final score resulted in the fourth points for the Colonels 6-2, 6-3. The Gold and White secured the win by way of Anderson, the No. 4 in Centre's lineup taking down his Lynx opponent on a 6-4, 6-3 final score. Rhodes took their first point of the day in the No. 2 series, Bush falling on a final score of 7-6 (3), 6-1. The Colonels added an insurance point for their final mark of the day, Emerson Dean coming into the lineup to push the No. 6 series in favor of the Gold and White, taking down his opponent on a 8-3 victory. The final series to conclude was Ghamgosar at the top of the lineup, Rhodes eventually coming out on top on a score of 6-4, 6-3.

The Colonels will have one more weekend before they wrap up the regular season and head to the conference tournament. Their first stop on the wrap-up will be at Oglethorpe, taking on the Stormy Petrels on Saturday, April 23 in Atlanta. That contest is scheduled to kick off at 10 a.m.
