Centre’s streak falls to Oglethorpe

ATLANTA – Riding an eight-game win streak dating back to March 20, the Centre men's tennis team (11-6, 4-2 SAA) traveled south to take on Oglethorpe in the final weekend of the regular season. The Stormy Petrels ended up halting the historic run, edging out the Colonels on a final score of 5-4.

Oglethorpe was able to make headway after the doubles series concluded, the Gold and White only able to snag one point out of the three series. Centre's point came by way of Ashton Whitt and Faraz Ghamgosar, the duo in the No. 2 slot of the lineup taking a dominant 8-3 victory. Jasper Gazzo and Newcomb Maddux faced a tight contest, but the series eventually fell in Oglethorpe's favor on an 8-6 final score. Bo Bush and Danny Nelson was the third series for the Colonels, the No. 1 team falling on a final score of 8-5.

The single matches were even in terms of point distribution, splitting an even three-for-three. The trio of points the Colonels garnered started in the No. 1 series, Ghamgosar bouncing back from a rough start to claim a victory 0-6, 7-6, 1-0. Whitt would end the day with two wins as the No. 3 member of the linup took down his singles opponent, the consistent 6-4, 6-4 final score working in his favor. The final point of the day for the Gold and White resulted in a 6-4, 7-6 score at the No. 6 spot of the lineup, Jett Anderson claiming the win. Oglethorpe's three points to clinch started in the No. 2 series, Bush unable to rattle his opponent in the 6-3, 6-3 loss. Gazzo fell in the No. 4 spot of the lineup, the freshman's final score was a 6-4, 7-6 result. The last series on Saturday morning belonged to Matthew Bulow, the senior falling 6-0, 6-0.
