Centre falls to Rhodes on the road

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Centre women's tennis team (10-9, 3-2 SAA) continued their four-game road trip to close the regular season, stopping in the state directly south on Sunday. The Colonels took on Rhodes, but couldn't emerge the victors in the 7-2 loss.

Despite the Lynx sweeping the Gold & White in the doubles series, the Colonels were able to force two of the three into an extra set, not falling without a fight. Caroline Lancaster and Maddy Trinh were the closest in margin as the No. 3 series, falling on a final score of 8-7 (4). The No. 2 series was right with them, in terms of score, Ella Rueff and Lainey Hill cutting a close match into an 8-7 (3) loss. Katharine Sherman and Hannah Doherty was the final series to conclude at the top of the lineup, their score resulting in defeat, 8-5.

Centre was able to swipe a couple points away from the Lynx in the singles category, Sherman collecting a victory in a 6-4, 6-3 score as the No. 1. Rueff was the second and final point for the Colonels on Sunday, her 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 win coming from the No. 2 spot of the lineup. The No. 3 series belonged to Doherty, falling on a score of 7-6 (1), 6-2. A 6-3, 6-2 final score was marked in the No. 4 series, Trinh being the student-athlete for Centre playing that match. Lancaster cut a close second series as the team's No. 5, but fell short in a 6-1, 7-5 loss. Abby Jamison came into the contest in the No. 6 spot of the lineup, falling on a final score of 6-2, 6-0.

The Colonels will have one more weekend on the road before they head to the conference tournament, their next stop being in Atlanta. Centre will take on Oglethorpe on Saturday, April 23, the first doubles serves kicking off at 10 a.m.
