Women’s tennis sweeps Stormy Petrels on the road

ATLANTA – Two weeks since their last contest, the Centre women's tennis team (11-9, 4-2 SAA) hopped on the road for their final weekend of the regular season with visiting Oglethorpe on Saturday. The Colonels were able to make a clean sweep of the Stormy Petrels on a 9-0 score, the Gold & White winning five of their last six contests.

The Colonels' sweep started off with three points in the doubles portion of the contest, Centre changing up their usual lineup slightly against Oglethorpe. Caroline Lancaster and Maddy Trinh had the biggest margin of victory as the team's No. 2, their final score resulting in an 8-3 victory. Hannah Doherty and Katharine Sherman were right behind their teammates, their 8-4 win coming from the 8-4 final result. The No. 3 doubles team secured the doubles sweep with a hard-fought 8-6 victory from Ella Rueff and Grace Headley.

Centre kept the ball rolling in the singles matches, Sherman putting on a stellar performance with a 6-4, 6-4 win in the No. 1 spot of the lineup. Rueff produced a sturdy back-half set against her No. 2 opponent, her final score being a 6-4, 6-0 win. The No. 3 win was owned by Doherty, her final score being a solid 6-2, 6-3 win. Trinh ran as the team's No. 4 spot of the lineup, her dominant win coming from a 6-4, 6-1 score. Lancaster had the most dominant victory out of the six matches, putting down her Stormy Petrel foe in a clean 6-0, 6-0 sweep. Rounding out the lineup with a victory was Headley, closing the contest out on a 6-4, 6-2 win as Centre's No. 6 student-athlete.

The Gold & White will look to close out the regular season with a victory on Sunday, April 24. The team will stay in the state of Georgia for the contest, the doubles matches starting on Berry's home courts at 10 a.m.
