Women's lacrosse falls at Sewanee in SAA Semifinals

SEWANEE, Tenn. – The season came to a close for the Centre women's lacrosse team as the Colonels fell to the no. 2 seed Sewanee Tigers 14-9 in the semifinals of the Southern Athletic Association Tournament on Sunday afternoon.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

- The Tigers quickly jumped out of the gates with three goals in the opening five minutes and looked to run away with the contest early, but the Centre defense clamped down and cut the deficit to 3-2 by the end of the first period on free position goals by Haley Rice and Lily Gahm.
- The second period unfolded in nearly opposite fashion. With less than three minutes gone by, Ella Treinen found McKenna Hulette for an equalizing goal, and 62 seconds later, Rice put one in to give the Colonels their first lead. Later in the period, Gahm, who set the single game assist record during Friday's quarterfinal matchup, assisted on consecutive goals by Rice and Emma Botts to give the Colonels a 6-3 lead. The Tigers would respond by outscoring Centre 6-0 for the remainder of the period, including stretch of three goals in 45 seconds as well as a goal with eight seconds left to put Sewanee up 9-6 at the half.
- Sewanee added three more goals to their run to open the third period. Hulette scored off an assist by Gahm to stop the run, but the Tigers answered right back with a goal to take a 13-7 lead after three periods.
- The Colonels would outscore the Tigers in the fourth period behind goals from Rice and Madeleine Longmeyer, but could get no closer than the final margin of five goals.
