Women’s tennis honors six seniors against BSC

DANVILLE, Ky. – Aiming to complete a perfect final home stand of the season, the Centre women's tennis team (9-8, 2-1 SAA) hosted Birmingham-Southern for the final match of the season on the Centre Outdoor Tennis Courts. The Colonels celebrated the success of six seniors currently on their roster, dominating their match against the Panthers on an 8-1 final score.

The Gold and White didn't hold back in the doubles portion of the contest, not letting BSC claim more than four games in any of the three series. Ella Rueff and Lainey Hill in the No. 2 slot were the first pair to wrap up their win, a stellar 8-1 final score that tied their largest margin of victory so far this season. Katharine Sherman and Hannah Doherty was the duo in the No. 1 series for the Colonels, their 8-4 victory being the pairs' second consecutive doubles win. Grace Headley and Caroline Lancaster teamed up for the second time this season as the roster's No. 3 doubles team, their 8-4 win keeping their perfect record together alive.

The Colonels would continue to roll in the singles category, holding Birmingham-Southern to only one point out of the six matches conducted on Sunday. Doherty held the most dominate singles victory on the night, her 6-1, 6-2 victory coming as the team's No. 3. Lancaster didn't finish too far behind her as the team's No. 5, the senior taking down her opponent in a 6-1, 6-3 victory. Sherman's strong start helped her hold on the entire series as the team's No. 1 singles player, the 6-2, 6-3 coming quickly for the senior. Rueff was able to be consistent throughout the entire No. 2 series for Centre, her win coming off a 6-3, 6-3 final result. Hill garnered the final point for the Gold and White at the No. 4 series, taking her opponent to extras in a 6-1, 2-6, 10-6 win. Elizabeth Joiner made her first appearance for the Colonels in the official scoring lineup, working as the team's No. 6 member as she celebrated her senior peers throughout the contest. Joiner's final score wouldn't fall in Centre's favor, a 6-3, 6-1 final score. Caroline Dishman was able to get in on the action for the special day as well, the senior from Louisville, Ky., competing in an unofficial singles exhibition match.

Although the Colonels wrapped up their contests in Danville, Ky., this weekend, they'll look to close out the regular season strong with four more matches on the calendar. Their next date circled is Saturday, April 9, where the Gold and White will travel to Hendrix for their third-straight SAA match. The first doubles serves will commence at 11 a.m.
