Centre offense sputters in 17-0 loss at Trine

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Centre football team returned from its bye week with a trip up north to face the Trine Thunder in their final non-conference game of the season. The Trine defense was the difference maker as the Colonels lost by a score of 17-0.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

- Trine marched all the way to the Centre 1-yard line on their first drive of the game, however the first big play of the game came from the Centre defense as Justin Gainey, Nick Grant and Oliver Hunter combined to make a stop on 4th & goal, turning the ball over to the Colonels.
- Following a Centre punt, Trine used a deep ball to once again enter the red zone, but once again the Centre defense tightened as Quinton Moss picked off a pass in the end zone to stop the Thunder threat.
- A Dallas Douglas sack on third down forced a Trine punt that gave Centre its shortest field of the game to that point, but Trine held on defense and after they got the ball back at the start of the second quarter, the Thunder moved 75 yards and capped off the drive with a short touchdown run for the game's first score.
- On the last Thunder possession of the half, Trine took over seven minutes off the clock as they went 80 yards in 14 plays and scored from five yards out to make it 14-0 at the half.
- The Colonels held the ball for the majority of the third quarter, stringing together first downs on a pair of long drives. Nick Osterman scrambled for a conversion on fourth down to get into plus territory for the first time, but the drive ended on Centre's next fourth down attempt. A sack by Armon Wells took Trine out of field goal range on the only Thunder drive of the quarter.
- After the turnover on downs, Trine got the ball back in their own territory and kept the ball for over ten minutes, kicking a short field goal to extend the lead to 17-0.
- Centre's last drive of the game reached midfield before an interception on third down stopped the march in its tracks.
- The Colonels got the ball one last time and quickly got three first downs, advancing the ball to the Trine goal line before fumbling at the 1 with less than a minute to go.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

- The Centre offense managed just 159 total yards and 17 net rushing yards against a stout Trine defense. Trine dominated possession to the tune of 15 first downs in the first half to three for the Colonels.
- Defensively, the Colonels were strong once again against the run as they limited Trine to 68 yards on the ground.
- Jack Colosimo led all players with eight tackles on the day. The Colonels had nine tackles for loss, with Douglas, Hunter and Miles Smith each finishing with two.
