DANVILLE, Ky. – The Centre football team had a memorable Homecoming Saturday as the Colonels dedicated their home stadium to head coach
Andy Frye and had their best performance of the year in a 45-21 victory over the Southwestern Pirates.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The fireworks started on the second Southwestern drive of the game as
Dallas Douglas deflected a Pirate pass at the line of scrimmage, caught his own deflection and raced ten yards to the end zone for Centre's first defensive touchdown of the season, but it would not be the only defensive score of the day.
- The next Pirates drive ended on fourth down as
Nick Grant broke up a deep ball to turn Southwestern over on downs. The Colonels used a mix of run and pass to get into the red zone and capped off the drive with a 35-yard field goal by
Cam Tegge to make it 10-0.
- As the game moved into the second quarter, the Colonels scored again. The key play of the drive was a 4th & 1 conversion as
Jack Gohmann hit
Ethan Mays over the middle for a huge gain when everybody was expecting a run play. One play later, Gohmann found
Christian Billiter in the back of the end zone to give the Colonels a 17-0 lead.
- Two plays later, the lead increased as
Nick Grant jumped an out route for an interception and a walk-in touchdown from 25 yards out.
- After a Southwestern touchdown, Centre got the ball back and quickly marched 70 yards, capped off with a 38-yard strike from Gohmann to
Blake Busson to put Centre on top 31-7.
- The Colonels got the ball back to start the third quarter and quickly reached the Southwestern end zone following a long run by
Will McDaniel. On 3rd & goal, Gohmann delivered his third touchdown of the game, this time to
Scotty Brown for a 38-7 Centre lead.
- In the fourth quarter, a fourth down sack by
Wyatt Fowler gave Centre its best field position of the game and the Colonels capitalized as
Nick Osterman connected with
Luke Hammons on a swing pass that covered 24 yards for the last Centre touchdown of the day.

- Centre outgained Southwestern 480-261 for the game, including a 270-92 edge on the ground, by far the best rushing performance of the season for the Colonels. McDaniel led the way with 106 yards, with Gohmann adding 89 for a career high.
- The Colonels had an efficient day in the passing game as the quarterbacks completed 21-35 passes for 210 yards and three scores. Busson led all players with five catches for 72 yards and a touchdown.
- The Centre defense more than doubled its season total in sacks as five different players took down the quarterback today. One of those players was
