Colonels batter Cougars at home

DANVILLE, Ky.- On Friday evening, Centre women's basketball hosted Averett University in their opening night of the annual Lee's Famous Recipe/Hampton Inn Classic. Taking an early, double-digit lead, the Colonels collected their third victory of the season, improving to a 3-0 overall record.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Gold & White quickly opened the game's scoring with a pair of three pointers from Bailey Rucker and Anna Thomas. Thomas struck hot as she drained five long balls in the first quarter alone, adding a made free-throw. The Colonels stretched their hold to 21 before the Cougars could tally a point. Closing the first period, Centre held a 23-point advantage over their opponents.
- The Colonels once again opened the scoring with Rucker, but the Cougars would answer just after. Averett, having their best quarter yet, halted Centre to 17 points, putting up 14 themselves. Although nearly matching the Colonels' offensive numbers, Averett still trailed by 26 entering halftime.
- Out of the break, the Cougars amped up their defense with a full-court press in an attempt to slow the Colonels' momentum. Unphased, the Gold & White opened the quarter with a pair of free-throws from Emma Rose Vincent, paired with a long ball from Makya Grinter. Midway through the quarter, the Gold & White went on a 9-0 scoring run that would ultimately bring the score to Centre 60, Averett 27 entering the final period.
- The fourth quarter mirrored the previous three as the Colonels continued to pull away.
