FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The Centre volleyball team began its last week of the regular season with the first of three tournament games at Mary Washington, beginning with a match at the host Eagles, ranked third in the region and 22nd in the country. The Colonels fell to the Eagles by a 3-0 score.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Mary Washington controlled the opening set as they scored 11 of the first 12 points and never looked back on the way to a 25-11 win.
- The second set was the closest one of the night as both teams played well throughout, with neither team leading by more than two at any point. The Colonels and Eagles alternated the first 13 points of the set and exchanged the lead on numerous occasions. Centre forced a set point at 24-22 on a kill from
Emily Goddin, but UMW scored the next four to take it in extra points, 26-24.
- The third set began in a similar fashion as the second, with UMW leading 11-10 after five lead changes and seven ties in the early stages. From there, the no. 22 Eagles took command with a 9-0 run, eventually winning 25-13.

Syd Bietz led all players with 14 kills.

Emily Gardner finished with a game high 23 assists to go along with ten digs and four kills from her setter position.

Madi Barron tied for a game high 13 digs and is now 25 away from the Centre 25-point era career digs record.

Centre will face another regionally ranked foe on Saturday in Christopher Newport and then will wrap up the doubleheader against Averett.
