Colonels close campaign at Rhodes

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Centre field hockey went head-to-head with Rhodes in the 2023 SAA Field Hockey Championship game. After taking an early lead, the Lynx fended the Colonels off to win by a score of 3-1. 
 

The Gold & White close their 2023 campaign with an overall record of 11-9 and 7-2 in the league. 

GAME HIGHLIGHTS     

 - The Lynx took the first lead of the game with five seconds remaining in the initial quarter. Opening the next period, Rhodes quickly stretched their hold to two during a penalty stroke less than a minute in. The Lynx would go on to register their third, unanswered goal before Centre would get on the board. Claire Martin put together the Colonels' first, and only goal during a corner play midway through the period. Entering halftime, Rhodes held a two-point advantage over Centre.  
-Out of the break, the two teams played each other tightly. For the remainder of the contest, Rhodes would rattle off three additional shots while the Colonels would only take one. When regulation play concluded, the final score read 3-1, the Lynx favoring.  

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE   
- Martin fronted the Colonels in both goals and shots. The junior collected one goal and registered two shots.  
- In goal, Carlie McKenry stopped four of Rhodes' 11 shots. 
- The Lynx favored in corners, having six to the Colonels' three.
