DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – It was a Colonels vs. Colonels battle on Day 1 of the Daytona Beach Shootout as the Centre men's basketball team battled Wilkes. Both teams struggled putting the ball in the basket as Centre missed a shot at the tie at the buzzer, falling 56-53.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The first half was an offensive struggle with missed shots and turnovers on both sides. Neither team led by more than five in the opening half, but Centre made a nice charge in the last two minutes.

Cade Stinnett scored the last five Centre points to make it a 23-23 game going into the locker room at halftime.
- Stinnett and
Chez Moore gave Centre the lead in the opening minutes of the second half. Wilkes battled back and a game of runs began.
- The Centre bench provided a spark as
Jaxson Banks and
Noah Ring combined for ten straight points to help battle back from a seven-point hole to tie the score at 40-40.
- Wilkes again jumped out to a seven-point lead at 51-44, but Banks responded with a three. A block by ring led to a runout and score from
Carter Baughman to make it 55-51.
- Trailing 56-52 with nine seconds left, Stinnett drew a foul and made the first free throw. Banks rebounded the miss on the second attempt and Centre had a shot to tie on the final play of the game, but the shot was off and Wilkes got the victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Stinnett led Centre with 20 points and tied for a game high with seven rebounds. Banks came off the bench to score a career high 13 points.
- Centre scored 21 points on 19 Wilkes turnovers. Centre also held a 9-0 advantage on second chance points.
