FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – After facing off against no. 37-ranked Christopher Newport on Friday, the Centre men's tennis team (0-2) dueled with their second-straight ranked opponent on Saturday afternoon. The Colonels featured some close battles against no. 18 Mary Washington, ultimately falling on a final score of 8-1.
The Gold & White had another incredible strong showing in the doubles category, despite the score, two of the three series being 8-6 or closer in their respective final score.
Bo Bush and
Ty Bush teamed up again as the no. 1 spot in the lineup, their back-and-forth battle against Mary Washington hitting extras in the 8-7 (2) loss.
Jasper Gazzo and
Ben Rueff were just short of a victory as well in the no. 2 spot of the lineup, their 8-6 final score showing a lot of promise for the duo's first spring competition together.
Faraz Ghamgosar and
Ashton Whitt came together again for the no. 3 doubles team and couldn't find the victory against their Eagle opponents, falling on a final 8-4 score.
The Eagles would seal the win during the singles matches, the Colonels earning a win in one of the six matches that went on. Ghamgosar's final score in the no. 1 spot of the lineup was 6-1, 6-2,
Jett Anderson's no. 5 series finishing on a 6-1, 6-3 score.
Ty Bush would fall 6-0, 6-1 as the no. 2 slot, the no. 4 series having a 6-3, 6-2 final score with Whitt as the Colonels' representative in the match.
Chase Turley was able to extend his second set to extras in the no. 6 spot of the lineup, but was just short of forcing a third on a 6-0, 7-6 (6) final score.
Bo Bush would earn Centre's lone point of the night in the no. 3 series, putting up a close punch-for-punch series against his Eagle opponent before they retired due to unforeseen circumstances.
The Gold & White will have one more contest on the east coast before heading back to campus, taking on Washington & Lee on Sunday, Feb. 12 our in Lexington, Va. The first doubles serve will kick off at 10 a.m. ET.
