DANVILLE, Ky. – Coming off close victories last week, the Centre women's tennis team (2-2) competed in another back-and-forth battle on Sunday afternoon against Thomas More. The Colonels looked to amount the comeback on the Saints, but ultimately fell in a final score of 5-4.
Maddy Trinh and
Kayla Harger continued their streak with another win on Sunday, pumping out another dominant 8-2 win over their doubles opponent at the no. 3 spot of the lineup. The duo now have a win streak of three, Trinh doing that twice with
Caroline Lancaster last season. The other two doubles teams for the Gold & White could amass a win, but both played incredibly close series that almost reached extras. The no. 1 team of
Lainey Hill and
Carlie Mitchell were the first of the two to finish, the final score being listed as 8-6. The no. 2 slot of the lineup also featured an 8-6 final score,
Ella Rueff and
Grace Williams coming close to a win but fell short late.
Centre would split Thomas More in the singles matches, two of their victories in that portion of the contest stemming from comeback performances. Hill had the first of the two comebacks for the Colonels, taking down her opponent in a thrilling third set after falling behind early 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 as the team's no. 2. Trinh continued her undefeated season in singles with another victory, this time in the no. 4 spot of the lineup, earning Centre's final point 6-3, 6-4.
Mitchell put up a close fight with her Saints opponent in the no. 3 slot, ultimately falling on a 6-3, 6-3 final score. The no. 1 spot of the team belonged to Rueff, falling 6-2, 6-2 in her singles match. The final series of the night had a 6-1, 6-2 result in favor of Thomas More,
Mamie Sevier competing for the Gold & White in the no. 6 spot of the lineup.
