SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Centre women's tennis team (2-3, 0-1 SAA) traveled south out to Tennessee to face off against the no. 10-ranked Sewanee Tigers on Saturday afternoon. The Colonels couldn't find their conference win of the season, falling to the Tigers on an 8-1 final score.
Carlie Mitchell and
Lainey Hill were in the no. 1 spot of the lineup, falling to Sewanee 8-2.
Ella Rueff and
Grace Williams held the second team in the three doubles matches, their final score in favor of the Tigers 8-2. The final doubles score was 8-1,
Maddy Trinh and
Kayla Harger falling to their Sewanee opponent in the no. 3 spot of the lineup.
Williams found the lone point for the Gold & White on Saturday in the singles portion of the contest, putting her no. 5 opponent down on a two-set victory 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) final score. Rueff held the no. 1 spot of the lineup, but ultimately fell 6-0, 6-3. Hill's final score was 6-3, 6-1, her Tiger opponent claiming the win at the no. 2 singles match. Mitchell put together a strong no. 3 series in the second set, the freshman falling 6-1, 6-3 in the end of the series. Trinh fell in the closest loss for the Colonels in the singles lineup, losing at the no. 4 spot 6-2, 6-3.
Mamie Sevier was the final tennis match to conclude, the 6-2, 6-2 final score at the no. 6 spot of the match falling in favor of the Tigers.
The Colonels will take a quick turnaround back to Danville, Ky. for the first of their three-game homestand, starting off on Sunday, Feb. 26 against Indiana University Southeast. The first doubles match in the Seabury Family Tennis Center will kick off at 2 p.m. ET.
