DANVILLE, Ky. – After facing off against a top-ten Division III team in Tennessee just yesterday, the Centre women's tennis team (3-3, 0-1 SAA) faced off in a Sunday matchup against the Indiana University Southeast Grenadiers. The Colonels emerged victorious in the Sunday showdown, getting back on track in the win column with an 8-1 final score.
The two doubles teams that competed in the competition between the two programs both had similar scores, the Gold & White winning on a final 8-2 score between the no. 1 and no. 2 spots in the lineup.
Lainey Hill and
Carlie Mitchell controlled the top to kick off the series,
Maddy Trinh and
Grace Williams manning the other court to put up an early lead on the Grenadiers.
The Colonels rounded out several wins in the singles category of the contest, junior
Abby Jamison posting a dominant 6-2, 6-0 victory as the team's no. 2 competitor.
Ella Rueff headed Centre in the no. 1 spot of the lineup, clinching the win in extras on the 6-2, 7-6 (6) final score.
Sophie Maddux came through with the final competed point for the Gold & White at the no. 3 slot of the list of matches, pushing through late on a 6-2, 2-6, 10-5 victory.
Skylar Keesee was the final competitor to step onto the court on Sunday, her no. 4 match falling in favor of the opponent 6-1, 6-3.
Centre will catch a breather before their next contest, hosting Transylvania on Saturday, March 4 for a battle in Danville, Ky. The Colonels will host the Pioneers at 1 p.m. ET.
