CONWAY, Ark. – Centre men's basketball built a sizeable lead in the first half of their rematch with the Hendrix Warriors, but just like their first matchup, the Warriors caught fire in the second half and overtook the Colonels, winning by a score of 63-60.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Colonels got off to a nice start as all five of their starters scored before the first media timeout.
- Centre continued the hot shooting throughout the first half, using runs of 8-0 and 13-4 to extend to their largest lead of the game at 35-14 following free throws by
Drew Wilson.
- Hendrix scored the final five points of the half to cut the lead to 16, but
Marshall Taylor and
Cade Stinnett held the Warriors at bay with three-pointers in the early minutes of the second half.
- Following a media timeout in the second half, the Warriors got hot from long distance, knocking down three three-pointers in a 16-2 stretch to cut the deficit to one point.
- The two teams traded baskets for the next five minutes before Hendrix crashed the offensive glass, getting three straight baskets on putbacks to take a four-point lead. The Colonels could get no closer than two the rest of the way as late misses from the free throw line proved costly.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Wilson led all players with 21 points, followed by Stinnett with 16 and Taylor with 13.
- Hendrix held a 41-29 advantage on the boards, which contributed to a 12-5 advantage in second chance, with six of those points coming in the final stretch.
- Centre had seven steals and forced Hendrix into 29 percent shooting in the first half (including 1-12 from three-point range), but the Warriors only turned it over once in the second half while making seven threes.
