Centre baseball sweeps Millsaps in Saturday doubleheader

DANVILLE, Ky. – The Centre baseball team resumed conference play with a home series against the Millsaps Majors. The Colonels pulled away for an 8-2 victory in the first game before coming from behind to win 3-2 in game 2 as they improved to 9-5 on the year, 4-1 in conference play and increased their winning streak to five games.

Game 1: Centre 8, Millsaps 2

- The Colonels struck first in the bottom of the fourth with a two-out rally. Will Cline led off by reaching on an error, and then a single by Matthew Maggard put runners on the corners. A wild pitch allowed Cline to score the game's first run.
- After Perry Nadreau was hit by a pitch, Josh Cunningham ripped a base hit to left to score Maggard. Another error that would have ended the inning made it 3-0, and then Karson Thompson legged out an infield hit to cap off the rally with Centre leading 4-0.
- Centre tacked on three more in the sixth. Cunningham and Dillon Di Iorio led off with walks. Ben Prather was hit by a pitch to load the bases, paving the way for Cline to drive in two with a base hit. The Colonels scored their next run on the fourth Millsaps error of the game to take a 7-0 lead.
- In the seventh, Nadreau led off with a blooper to center field and eventually scored on an RBI single from Di Iorio to cap off the scoring for the Colonels.
- Mason King pitched a scoreless final two innings to secure the victory.

Game 2: Centre 3, Millsaps 2

- The Majors got on the board first after a wild pitch, but Centre got it back in their half of the first as Di Iorio went the other way with a single, eventually scoring on a sac fly from Cline.
- Trailing 2-1 in the fifth, Di Iorio started a rally by smashing a triple off the wall. Thompson followed with an RBI single up the middle to tie the game.
- Prather walked and Thompson advanced on a wild pitch to put runners at the corners. Cline then laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt to drive in Thompson for the go-ahead run.
- Once the Colonels took the lead, Prather was lights out on the mound, as he went the rest of the way, aided by some excellent defensive plays by Jamie Laframboise at third, to close the door on the Saturday sweep.
