ATLANTA – The Centre baseball team wrapped up their first road series of the season as they played the rubber match against the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels. One monster inning was all the Colonels needed to secure the series win with a 6-1 victory.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- After failing to capitalize with runners in scoring position in two of the first three innings, the Colonels broke the scoreless tie in a big way in the top of the fourth. Centre loaded the bases immediately following a base hit from
Chase Austin, a walk to
Matthew Maggard and a bunt single by
Jamie Laframboise. Hometown freshman
Aaron Lopez then snuck a single through the infield to plate the first two runs of the contest for the Colonels.
- Leading 2-0, a double steal by Laframboise and Lopez put runners on second and third, and then an infield hit from
Perry Nadreau made it 3-0.
Josh Cunningham then ripped a base hit up the middle to put Centre up by four. A pair of RBI groundouts from
Dillon Di Iorio and
Ben Prather capped off the six-run inning for the Colonels.
-
Josh Livengood pitched his way out of a pair of tough situations in the fourth and fifth with minimal damage as the Petrels could only dent the scoreboard once despite multiple runners in scoring position in both innings.
- Livengood gave way to
Cam Tegge out of the bullpen, who pitched four scoreless innings to seal the deal on Centre's 13th victory of the season.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Lopez had the best game of his young career, going 3-3 at the plate with a walk, a run, a stolen base and two RBIs in his return to Atlanta.
- Centre's fourth inning explosion saw only four hits, but five different players drove in runs during the stretch.
- Livengood earned the win after allowing four hits and one run in five innings while striking out four Oglethorpe hitters.
