Women’s tennis starts Texas tour against Tornadoes

AUSTIN, Texas – The Centre women's tennis team (5-4, 0-1 SAA) started their spring break trip down south with a Saturday contest against Concordia, the first of their three competitions in the lone-star state. The Colonels couldn't find a win in the first game in Texas, falling to the Tornadoes on a 7-2 final score.
 
The Gold & White weren't able to grab a win in the doubles portion of the contest, all three series resulting in an 8-4 final score. Carlie Mitchell and Grace Williams controlled the top spot of the lineup, Lainey Hill and Ella Rueff commanding the no. 2 spot of the match. Kayla Harger and Mamie Sevier were the final match of the three doubles series, sitting in the no. 3 lineup slot.
 
The Colonels were able to snag a couple wins in the singles portion of the contest, Kayla Harger surging in the second set to claim a win in the fourth spot of the lineup. Harger's final score was a 7-5, 6-0 mark. Williams held the other team point for Centre in Saturday's contest, the winner of the contest's no. 5 match holding a 6-3, 6-2 final score. Mitchell almost collected the Gold & White's third point in her no. 3 series, the final score going back and forth in the 6-3, 5-7, 10-5 loss. The no. 1 spot of the lineup was held by Ella Rueff, the senior falling on a 6-1, 6-3 score in her series. Lainey Hill commanded the no. 2 spot for the Colonels, falling on a 7-5, 6-7, 10-6 score. Mamie Sevier was the final slot of the singles matches at the no. 6 spot, her final score ending in a 7-6, 6-1 loss.
 
Centre will get a couple days before their next match on the schedule, continuing around the state to Belton, Texas. The two programs will match up on Tuesday, March 21, the contest with a scheduled start time of 2 p.m. ET.
