Centre faces off against Southwestern to round out Texas trip

GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Centre women's tennis team (5-5) finished out their trip southwest of Kentucky with one final contest in Texas on Wednesday, competing against Southwestern. The Colonels couldn't find a team victory against the Pirates, falling on a final score of 8-1.

The non-conference match kicked off with the doubles series, the Colonels unable to snag a win in the three matches that faced off. Carlie Mitchell and Grace Williams headed the no. 1 team, falling on a final score of 8-1. The senior duo of Ella Rueff and Lainey Hill were the team in the second spot of the lineup, hosting a similar score of 8-1 in their contest as well. Mamie Sevier and Kayla Harger were the final doubles match of the three-series section of the contest, their score being posted with an 8-0 score.

Sevier found the lone point for the Colonels on Wednesday, winning her no. 6 series by default on a 1-6, 4-5 final score. Rueff forced her opponent into a tiebreaker round in the second set after falling behind early, the no. 1 Centre player eventually falling in the tight contest 6-1, 7-6 (4). The no. 2 spot of the lineup was held by Hill, her final score being 6-3, 6-2 in favor of her Pirate opponent. Mitchell manned the no. 3 lineup spot, the freshman losing her series on a 6-0, 6-2 final score. The fourth singles series to take place was a 6-1, 6-0 win for Southwestern the Colonels' representative being Harger. Williams rounded out the lineup as the last singles match mentioned at the no. 5 spot, her score being 6-3, 6-1.

The Colonels will return to Danville, Ky., to finish their spring break season before hosting five-straight home matches on campus, first facing off against the Hendrix Warriors. The Colonels will kick that match off at 9 a.m. ET, taking place on Saturday, April 1.
