GEORGETOWN, Texas – Rounding out their Texas spring-break trip on Wednesday, the Centre men's tennis team (4-8) faced off against Southwestern before heading back to Kentucky. The Colonels featured a tight contest in the evening showdown, the final score listed as 8-1 in the loss.
The doubles series contained the Gold & White's best battles of the night,
Ty Bush and
Bo Bush earning Centre's lone point with a win in the no. 1 slot of the lineup against the seventh-ranked doubles team in Division III. The Bush brothers won their matchup 8-4, the largest margin of victory in the first half of the event. The final two series had scores of 8-7,
Ben Rueff and
Faraz Ghamgosar manning the no. 2 spot of the roster with a close 8-7 (5) score. The third series in the event was just as tight at 8-7 (4),
Jasper Gazzo and
Ashton Whitt coming close to giving the Colonels' an advantage handed into singles.
The singles matched almost saw a point sway in Centre's favor, Rueff's series at the no. 3 spot of the lineup reaching a third set in his 2-6, 6-2, 7-5 final score. Ghamgosar and
Ty Bush had similar tight scores in their respected no. 1 and no. 2 matches, but couldn't pull away with wins in the 6-4 final scores.
Jett Anderson came into the match in the no. 6 spot of the lineup, not coming away with the win 6-2, 6-2. Whitt was featured in the no. 5 spot of the lineup (6-3, 6-1 loss) and
Bo Bush was placed in the no. 3 section of the roster (6-1, 6-1 loss).
The Colonels will head back to Kentucky in their return for five-straight matches at home, starting Saturday at 1 p.m. ET against Midway. The Gold & White will be competing in the Seabury Family Tennis Center to start the home stretch.
