DANVILLE, Ky. – After traveling out west for spring break last week, the Centre women's tennis team (6-5, 1-1 SAA) stepped back on the court once again on Saturday morning, this time in their home state. The Colonels faced off against the Southern Athletic Association (SAA)-opponent Hendrix Warriors, the Gold & White emerging with their first conference win of the year off an 8-1 final score.
The Colonels kicked off the match with as strong of a performance as you could muster, claiming wins in all three doubles matches that took place in the Seabury Family Tennis Center.
Ella Rueff and
Lainey Hill kicked off the contest with Centre's first point of the day in the top of the lineup, earning the win 8-1. The score would copy off the performance of freshman-duo
Carlie Mitchell and
Grace Williams, the two battling out their Warriors opponent in the no. 2 spot of the order.
Maddy Trinh and
Kayla Harger would combine for the final point for the Gold & White's doubles matches at the no. 3 slot, earning their fifth win of the year together off the 8-4 victory.
Centre would continue the streak off Mitchell's match at the no. 2 spot of the order in the singles matches, earning a dominant 6-2, 6-2 win for the Colonels. Trinh would also strike a strong 6-1, 6-2 win over her no. 3 opponent, Williams sealing the victory for the Gold & White with a win by retirement. Harger and Jamison each played a single set to round out the event at the no. 5 and no. 6 matches, finishing with wins by 8-7 (3) and 8-1 final scores, respectively. Rueff was the final match to conclude on the day, falling 6-2, 6-1 in the top spot of the lineup.
The Gold & White will look to produce an SAA win streak with a win on Sunday, facing off against the Rhodes Lynx at 9 a.m. ET.
