DANVILLE, Ky. – The Centre baseball team kept the hot bats alive on Sunday as they rallied in the late innings to win the rubber match against Concordia Chicago by a score of 9-6. The Colonels move to 16-7 on the year.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Cougars got on the board first after a Centre error in the second, but the Colonels got the lead right back with a two-out rally when it was their turn to bat.
Teddy Holloway ripped a base hit up the middle, and then after a
Jamie Laframboise walk,
Evan Weyler went the other way with a single to tie the score. When Weyler stole second, the throw went into the outfield, allowing Laframboise to cross the plate and give Centre the lead.
- Over the next two innings, Concordia went on a big rally, scoring five runs to take a 6-2 lead.
- Things stayed quiet until the sixth when the Centre bats woke up. A single by
Dillon Di Iorio was sandwiched in between a pair of hit batters to load the bases with nobody out. Laframboise poked one to the opposite field to score a pair of runs and then another scored on an RBI groundout from Weyler to make it 6-5.
- In the bottom of the seventh,
Mark Pyburn led off by reaching third after his fly ball bounced off the heel of the center fielder's glove.
Ben Prather then lined a base hit to tie the game.
Chase Austin smacked a double into the gap to put runners on second and third, and Di Iorio's sacrifice fly put the Colonels on top 7-6.
- Centre added to the lead in the eighth. After Weyler was hit by a pitch,
Josh Cunningham delivered a towering blast over the big wall in left field to make it a 9-6 game.
- The Cougars went down quietly in the ninth as
David Kinsbrunner locked down a six-out save to secure Centre's 16th win of the season, one shy of their 2022 total.
