Centre falls to #33 Sewanee

DANVILLE, Ky. – After earning a three-match win streak last weekend, the Centre men's tennis team (3-5, 1-0 SAA) put their streak on the line to start conference play with a Saturday match against Sewanee. The Colonels fell to the no. 33-ranked Tigers in the contest, the final score being 7-2 in Sewanee's favor.
 
Sewanee claimed all three doubles matches, Faraz Ghamgosar and Ashton Whitt posting the closest score of the three with an 8-4 finish as the team's no. 3 doubles party. Both the no. 1 series and the no. 3 series posted similar scores of 8-3, Ty Bush and Bo Bush controlling the top team in the lineup and the team of Jasper Gazzo and Ben Rueff being on Centre's no. 2 team.
 
The Gold & White were able to claim a pair of points in the singles category, Ben Rueff posting a strong back half as the team's no. 4 spot of the lineup, claiming his third-straight singles win 1-6, 7-5, 1-0 (3). Sophomore Jett Anderson picked up the second win for Centre off his fast start, his no. 6 match concluding off a final 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (7) victory. Ty Bush would post the closest series out of the rest of the singles contests, but falling in the no. 2 slot of the lineup 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. Bo Bush would push his no. 3 opponent to extras in the first set, but would fall soon after on a final score of 7-6 (5), 6-2. The no. 1 series would be hosted by Ghamgosar for Centre, taking on a strong Tigers opponent and fall 6-4, 6-2. Whitt would take part in the final singles series of the night for the Gold & White, the final score being 6-1, 6-3 in favor of Sewanee.
 
The Colonels will face off against more tough competition before the weekend concludes, traveling up north to Louisville, Ky., to compete against Bellarmine. The match will take place on Sunday, March 5, kicking off at 3 p.m. ET.
