LOUISVILLE, Ky. – After facing off against their fourth Division III-ranked team of the season on Saturday, the Centre men's tennis team (3-6, 0-1 SAA) traveled up north to the Kentucky border to face off against Division I Bellarmine on Sunday. The Colonels fought tough against another high-level opponent, but falling on a final score of 7-0 against the Knights.
Although the official statistics will give a blank to the Gold & White in the match (due to Division I scoring rulings), head coach
Currie Martin and co. were able to snag a win inside one of the three doubles matches that commenced on Sunday.
Bo Bush and
Ty Bush continued their strong season together as Centre's no. 1 doubles team, the two brothers taking down their opponent on a 6-3 dominant score.
Ben Rueff and
Jasper Gazzo also competed in a close contest in the no. 2 match of the lineup, the tight contest eventually falling favor to the Knights 6-4.
Ashton Whitt and
Faraz Ghamgosar tag-teaming in the third spot of the lineup to round out doubles, their final score being 6-2 by way of Bellarmine.
Whitt held one of the closest singles matches, pushing beat-for-beat in the second set in the no. 4 spot of the lineup but eventually falling 6-2, 6-4.
Jett Anderson pushed extras against his no. 5 opponent for a strong start to his series, but a second-half drought shifted the momentum in the 7-6 (3), 6-1 loss.
Ty Bush headed the top of the singles lineup as the team's no. 1, falling on a final score of 6-2, 6-2.
Bo Bush was right behind him at the no. 2 slot of the order, Bellarmine winning on a 6-2, 6-1 score. The no. 3 spot of the singles roster was owned by Rueff, the Knights winning 6-1, 6-1. Freshman
Chase Turley earned some action for the Colonels as the no. 6 spot of the lineup, his match resulting in a 6-0, 6-1 Bellarmine win.
After a weekend full of strong opponents, Centre will earn some well-deserved rest before taking the courts in their next competition. They'll soon take on Berea College in the Seabury Family Tennis Center, that 4 p.m. ET match taking place on Friday, March 10.
