Colonels slam back-to-back homers to split #16 Pioneers

DANVILLE, Ky. – Almost a month since they were last back on the Centre softball field, the Centre softball team (14-13, 10-5 SAA) returned to Kentucky to face off in a doubleheader series against the 16th-ranked Transylvania Pioneers. The Tuesday-night showdown resulted in a split between the two teams, Transylvania winning game one but the Colonels finding revenge in the second contest.

GAME ONE: Transylvania 9, Centre 1 (5 innings)
- The Colonels couldn't stop the Pioneers early, striking a run in the first inning of play.
- Lucy Baseheart was able to contain Transylvania later in the game on the mound, striking out two batters swinging to close out the inning.
- After claiming a nine-run lead heading into the bottom of the fourth inning, freshman Tori Candler opened the inning with a single to right field.
- Sunnie Woske came in to pinch run and reached around to third base, Lydia Rice sending a grounder just far enough to allow Woske to sweep across home plate for the Gold & White's lone score of the day.

GAME TWO: Centre 3, Transylvania 1
- The Colonels tried to strike early in their first opportunities to bat, Candler and Izzy Rushing both getting into scoring position but got stuck in the first inning.
- Morgan Tabor was able to catch a threatening Pioneer that tried to steal second base, but the freshman catcher tossing a beautiful throw to Cheney Floyd to claim the second out in the third inning.
- Centre was able to get on the board in the bottom of the third inning, Candler knocking in her first collegiate home run for a pair of RBI's as she brought in Rushing to take the lead.
- The next batter later, Emily Lammers would put up the Gold & White's third score by way of her team-high fourth home run this season. Candler and Lammers' at bats were the first time the Colonels have knocked back-to-back long balls this season.
- Andrea Searcy tossed her third complete game this season in Tuesday's contest, striking out four individuals and six hitless innings of work.
- Centre's victory in game two against Transylvania marks the first win over the Pioneers since March 30, 2015 and head coach Tori Brown's first ranked win in her Colonel career.
