Centre honors women’s tennis seniors with SAA victory

DANVILLE, Ky.– Coming off with a pair of wins in their two matches last week, the Centre women's tennis team (9-6, 2-2 SAA) stepped back out on the courts on Saturday morning to celebrate three student-athletes. Ella Rueff, Lainey Hill and Mamie Sevier joined the Colonels in a victory performance against the Stormy Petrels, winning their latest Southern Athletic Association match on a final score of 8-1.

Maddy Trinh and Kayla Harger kicked off the hot streak for the Gold & White with a win at the no. 3 slot of the lineup, pushing an 8-2 win for their eighth victory as a pair this season. The senior duo of Hill and Rueff came away with a dominant win as well in the top spot of the lineup, claiming Centre's second team point on a final score of 8-4. The final series to conclude had a tight 8-6 mark, falling in favor of the Colonels off of the performance from Grace Williams and Carlie Mitchell.

The singles matches on Saturday all were determined with two sets each, the Gold & White taking claim of five of the six series that took place. Trinh posted her third true sweep of the year, this time in the no. 4 spot of the lineup in the 6-0, 6-0 victory. Williams came close to replicating the same score in the no. 5 spot of the lineup, picking up another Centre win in a 6-1, 6-1 set. The no. 3 spot of the order almost had an identical score in the 6-2, 6-1 mark, the strong performance being done by Mitchell. Hill capped her Senior Day with a victory for the Colonels in the no. 2 slot of the lineup, winning on a final score of 6-3, 6-3. Her senior teammate in Mamie Sevier stepped onto the courts for her no. 6 match in the final team point of the night for the Gold & White, winning in a 6-2, 7-5 final score.
