Centre downs Vikings in home finale

DANVILLE, Ky. – Coming off the 9-0 sweep of the Stormy Petrels on Saturday, the Centre men's tennis team (10-9, 3-2 SAA) hosted the Berry Vikings for their final home contest of the 2023 season on Sunday. The two programs battled throughout the match, the Colonels emerging on top with a 5-2 final score.
 
Bo and Ty Bush kicked off the first point in the Gold & White's path to victory, winning the no. 1 doubles series off an 8-2 final score. Ben Rueff and Faraz Ghamgosar quickly followed with an identical score to the Bush Brothers, their no. 2 series' 8-2 win marking their fifth-straight win as a pair. The final doubles series went in favor of the Vikings, Ashton Whitt and Jasper Gazzo falling on an 8-6 final score on no. 3.
 
Berry claimed the first singles point after Ghamgosar fell 6-3, 6-2 in the no. 2 spot, but Centre would bounce back with three-straight singles win to capture their fourth team win in a row. Ty bush pushed the most dominant singles victory in his 6-2, 6-1 win at the no. 2 spot, Whitt coming in strong at the no. 3 with a 6-2, 6-4 win of his own. Rueff closed out the win as the Colonels' fourth man of the lineup, pushing a dominant second set in his 6-4, 6-2 victory. The Gold & White had two unfinished matches on the day, belonging to Jett Anderson at the no. 5 spot and Chase Turley in the no. 6 slot of the lineup.
 
The Colonels have three games left in the regular season, first taking on Campbellsville for the second time in the 2022-23 academic year on Tuesday, April 18. That road trip is scheduled to kick off at 5:30 p.m. ET.
