CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Coming off a 5-2 Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Quarterfinal win against Berry on Friday, the Centre men's tennis team (13-11, 4-3 SAA) took on the first-seeded Sewanee Tigers in the conference semifinal round on Saturday. The fourth-seeded Colonels couldn't amass a team win in the matchup, falling on a final score of 5-1.
The Gold & White showcased a thrilling doubles match at the no. 2 spot of the lineup,
Ben Rueff and
Faraz Ghamgosar pushing their Tigers opponent to a tiebreaker set to decide the victor. The duo won their eighth victory out of the last nine matches after Saturday's result, beating Sewanee with an 8-7 (3) final score.
Bo Bush and
Ty Bush fought well in their matchup against their no. 1 Tiger opponent but falling in the 8-4 score.
Ashton Whitt and
Chase Turley represented Centre in the final doubles series, losing their match 8-3 in the no. 3 spot of the order.
Sewanee took the first three singles matches to claim a decision in Saturday's match, Ghamgosar falling in his no. 1 spot of the lineup 6-1, 6-0,
Jett Anderson coming into the lineup as the Colonels' no. 6 student-athlete but losing on the final score of 6-4, 6-1.
Ty Bush's no. 3 match was the final series to conclude, ending on a final score of 6-3, 6-2.
Three series were left unfinished, freshman
Ben Rueff pushing towards a victory in the no. 4 slot, his series ending on a 6-4, 2-2 score.
Bo Bush featured a tight second set against his no. 3 opponent, but will be left to the unknown on a 1-6, 3-4 mark. Whitt held the final series, the no. 5 match ending with a 3-6, 1-4 mark against the Colonels.
The Colonels will end with a 13-11 record overall in the season, earning the conference's no. 4 seed on a 4-3 mark in the SAA and reach the semifinals for the third season in a row. Head coach
