DANVILLE, Ky. – In the third contest of their six-game home stretch, the Centre women's tennis team (7-6) hosted the Asbury Eagles on Wednesday night in the Seabury Family Tennis Center. The Colonels had the hot hand throughout the match, notching one more in the win column this season off the 8-1 final score.
The Gold & White performed a perfect doubles portion of the content, claiming all three doubles matches that went on. The Colonels even had two perfect series at the no. 2 and no. 3 spots of the lineup, the teams of
Carlie Mitchell plus
Grace Williams and
Maddy Trinh with
Kayla Harger each earned an 8-0 victory against their Asbury opponent.
Ella Rueff and
Lainey Hill also had a strong showing at the top of the lineup, earning a win as the no. 1 team for Centre with a final score of 8-5.
The singles matches were just as dominant for the Colonels, taking over five of the six matches that took place. Trinh continued her stellar season with another win in the no. 3 spot for Centre, almost completing the sweep in her 6-0, 6-1 win. The no. 4 spot almost had a similar score through Williams' win, the freshman posting a 6-2, 6-0 final score.
Abby Jamison came into the lineup as the Gold & White's no. 6 competitor in her two-set victory, posting another point for the Colonels in a close 7-5, 6-3 final score. Mitchell had a back-and-forth series against her Eagle opponent in the no. 2 spot of the order but came way with the victory in the third set on a final score 6-0, 1-6, 10-4. Rueff earned the final point of the night for Centre, her opponent handing the senior a win by retirement. Harger was the final singles match of the night at the no. 5 spot, falling on a final score of 6-3, 6-0.
The women's tennis team will have one more match in their schedule before the week's conclusion, hosting Maryville on campus for the back half of their home stretch. The match is set to kick off on Friday, April 7 at 3:30 p.m. ET.
