Men’s tennis tallies third sweep of the season

DANVILLE, Ky. – After pulling away in the thrilling 5-4 victory last night against Asbury, the Centre men's tennis team continued the win streak on Friday with a 9-0 sweep against the Maryville Scots. The Colonels' latest win marks their third shutout of the 2023 spring season.

The Colonels starts out with a dominant win at the no. 2 spot of the lineup, freshman duo Chase Turley and Ben Rueff teaming up for an 8-2 victory. The Gold & White's no. 1 and no. 3 series had identical scores of 8-3, the two squads consisting of Emerson Dean and Jett Anderson at the top of the lineup and Ashton Whitt with Luke Pellegrino in the final spot of the roster.

Centre continued the hot streak with a sweep in the singles matches, Tanner Ray coming into the lineup for a true sweep of 6-0, 6-0. The victory at the no. 6 slot of the lineup marks his first singles sweep of the season. Dean came close to replicating the success in the no. 5 spot, pushing a 6-1, 6-0 victory for Centre. Rueff mirrored that score in his no. 2 series on Friday, winning his fifth singles series in a row off the 6-0, 6-1 score. Turley earned a strong victory of his own in the no. 4 spot of the order, pushing a 6-1, 6-0 win. Anderson's strong shut-out first set positioned him well for a two-set win, doing just that in the no. 3 position on a 6-0, 6-4 final score. Faraz Ghamgosar was the final Colonel to complete in the singles lineup on Friday, pushing out the team sweep for Centre on a 6-1, 6-2 final score in the no. 1 slot of the lineup.

The Gold & White will have one more contest before their Senior Day weekend, taking on Campbellsville on Tuesday, April 11. That contest will take place on the road, the Tigers hosting the Colonels that day.
