Man's lacrosse closes 2023 campaign in NCAA second round

LEXINGTON, Va.- Centre men's lacrosse trekked to Virginia for the second round of the 2023 NCAA DIII Men's Lacrosse Tournament. Facing the No. 9 ranked Washington & Lee, the Colonels ultimately closed their 2023 campaign after suffering a 21-10 loss to the Generals.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
- Ridr Knowlton initiated the games scoring in the opening possession, but the General's offense wouldn't stutter. By halftime, Washington & Lee put up 13 points compared to the Colonel's four. Mick Ginnity claimed the other first quarter goal when he returned a deflected shot back to the cage. In the second period, Will Hubbs tallied a point with a diving goal minutes before Max Speers set up Ryan Black for Centre's last goal of the half. 
- Out of the halftime break, the Colonels offense ignited as Speers, Black, and Hubbs put together a 3-0 score run, cutting the score deficit in half. Speers would later collect another goal, but the Generals would set in three by the end of the period, moving the score to 17-8 entering the fourth quarter.
- In the game's final 15-minutes, Washington & Lee outscored the Colonels 5-2. Ginnity owned the first of the two goals, Speers netting the second with the help coming from Hubbs. Assisting the last goal of the game, Senior Will Hubbs closed his career by clinching the major milestone of 200 career points. 
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Speers was the Colonels leading scorer, having a hat-trick. Black, Hubbs, and Ginnity each had two goals while Knowlton possessed one. 
- Mozingo fronted Centre in ground balls with nine. 
- Vassar Barney and Jack Furlong led the team in caused turnovers with two apiece. 
- Centre completed 22-27 clears, Washington & Lee finishing 20-20.
- The Colonels claimed the only man-up goal of the game, the Generals fumbling their two opportunities.
