DANVILLE, Ky. – The Centre volleyball program announced the addition of Zach Rothstein to their staff, serving as an assistant coach for the team.
Rothstein takes over the role for Milea Ray, who left Centre over the summer to become an assistant coach at the University of Montevallo's volleyball program.
"I'm really excited about what Zach has to offer," head coach Pat Robidoux commented. "He has a keen eye for coaching the defense and serve receives, and he's clearly hungry to succeed. We look forward to seeing what he can do in the gym this fall!"
Before arriving at Centre, Rothstein spent time serving as an assistant for his alma mater at Fontbonne University and their men's volleyball program. As a student-athlete, he registered five seasons of playing for the Griffins, a staple member of their lineup as the team's libero. Rothstein totaled 1,327 digs over the course of his career, setting the freshman record for digs per set in 2017. He was awarded the MCVL Defensive Player of the Year honor twice in 2018 and 202, also being named to the conference All-MCVL First Team both those seasons. Rothstein also earned an invitation to the 2022 World Maccabiah Games to compete for Team USA.
Rothstein arrives to the Centre staff following their most successful season since 2013 in the 2022 season, the Colonels garnering 18 regular season wins. The Gold & White picked up their first conference tournament victory since 2016 when they took down Hendrix in the quarterfinal round of the SAA Tournament. The program had several other high points during the 2022 season, taking down fifth-ranked Berry on a final score of 3-2 on the road in Rome, Ga.
Centre will look to reach new heights in 2023, kicking off the upcoming season in Atlanta on Friday, Sept. 1. They'll play a pair of matches on opening day on Emory's campus, playing Greenboro to open the season at 4:30 p.m. and then face off versus the Eagles at 7 p.m. ET.
